Cote sans Dessein

story.lead_photo.caption

Cote sans Dessein was one of the early settlements on the Missouri river, established by French Canadian fur traders in the year 1812.  While the settlers were friendly with the local Osage Indian tribe, on April 4, 1815, the village faced an uncommon foe. Warriors from the Illinois Sac tribes, aided by Ioway and Fox, attacked Cote sans Dessein.  Although greatly outnumbered, the settlers were successful in repelling the attack, through sheer bravery in the face of danger.
